A Texas man has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act when he vandalized two pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) following the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022.
On May 7, 2022, Ethan Skorick, 23, defaced both Loreto House and Woman to Woman PRCs in Denton, Texas, by spray painting the words “NOT A CLINIC,” “FORCED BIRTH IS MURDER,” and “PRO BIRTH [does not equal] PRO LIFE” on the buildings and security cameras. Such action violated the FACE Act, which “prohibits a person from intentionally damaging or destroying the property of a facility because that facility provides reproductive health services.”
“Vandalizing facilities, including pregnancy resource centers, that provide reproductive health care has no place in the national discourse on reproductive health. Such conduct is unacceptable and unlawful,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “The Justice Department will enforce the FACE Act to protect all providers of reproductive health services, and their patients.”

Skorick has admitted to his role in the crime, explaining that he chose to vandalize the PRCs in light of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“I was angered by the United States Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which previously provided Constitutional protections for abortion services,” he said according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Skorick is just one of a handful of pro-abortion activists who have been convicted of FACE Act violations. Despite the fact that the vast majority of violence-related activities following the overturn of Roe v. Wade were against pro-life organizations and facilities, most of these acts of vandalism and violence have remained unsolved. A database compiled by CatholicVote shows that at least At least 95 pregnancy resource centers and pro-life groups have been attacked since May 2022. Meanwhile, many pro-lifers are currently sitting in prison for their roles in nonviolent forms of protest against abortion.
Skorick faces up to one year in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.
