Trump administration ‘temporarily’ withholds Title X funds from Planned Parenthood affiliates

Last month, it was reported that the Trump administration was looking to freeze family planning funding, potentially stripping Planned Parenthood of $20 million in federal taxpayer dollars. Now, that report has been proven accurate.

Nine Planned Parenthood affiliates said they received notice on Monday that Title X funding is being temporarily withheld from them. They have been given 10 days to show a willingness to comply with the Trump administration’s executive orders, and will then be informed as to whether the family planning funding will be permanently stripped or reinstated.

According to Politico, “The notice pointed to ‘possible violations’ of federal civil rights law and President Donald Trump’s executive orders — including prohibitions on promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion and ‘taxpayer subsidization of open borders.'” HHS is reportedly withholding these funds from seven other providers aside from the nine Planned Parenthood affiliates — 16 providers in all.

Politico reported:

Clare Coleman, the CEO of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, which represents most Title X providers, said in an interview that medical groups in the program are being penalized for following the rules.

The groups applied for the money under the Biden administration, when “health equity was a core priority,” and before Trump was sworn in or signed any executive orders, she said.

And in those applications, many stressed a commitment to diversity for which they’re now being penalized.

Under Trump’s first administration, Planned Parenthood was stripped of its Title X funding under the “Protect Life Rule,” which required organizations receiving family planning federal dollars to keep their family planning services separate, both physically and fiscally, from their abortion business. The organizations were also restricted from referring for abortions. The Biden administration disbanded that rule; it remains to be seen whether the current Trump administration is planning to reinstate the Protect Life Rule.

Alexis McGill Johnson, the current president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, said in a statement that being deprived of this funding will put women’s lives at risk. “President Trump and Elon Musk are pushing their dangerous political agenda, stripping health care access from people nationwide, and not giving a second thought to the devastation they will cause,” she said.

Yet Planned Parenthood serves just 2% of American women of reproductive age, and annual reports regularly show that Planned Parenthood’s legitimate health care services have plummeted even as the corporation’s abortion numbers have hit record highs.

Since the year 2000, Planned Parenthood has committed over 7.1 million abortions and currently commits an average of more than 1,000 abortions every single day. Sixty-two (62) abortions are committed at Planned Parenthood for every one woman who receives prenatal care, and it has become an industry leader in “gender affirming care,” offering “hormone replacement, puberty blockers, and even surgery referrals” to a reported “1 in 6 U.S. teens and young adults who sought gender hormones” in 2023, according to insurance data. Planned Parenthood has repeatedly failed to report instances of child sexual abuse and trafficking — and yet, the corporation’s most recent annual report reveals that it received nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding in just that year.
