Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been testifying before the House of Representatives this week on the Affordable Care Act, most commonly known as ObamaCare. When challenged on the lack of abortion coverage transparency in ObamaCare, Sebelius didn’t deny anything. Rather, she merely replied that she “thinks” the problem can be amended so that a constituent would be aware that they were funding abortions before purchasing a plan:
This is exactly what pro-lifers have been worried about. Despite the assurances of the Obama administration, there is no real conscience protection in ObamaCare. If a taxpayer doesn’t want to be forced to pay for someone else’s abortion, then too bad! If they don’t know which plans cover abortion, and which ones don’t, then there is literally no way for someone to ensure that they aren’t funding abortions. That isn’t freedom of choice. It’s forcing taxpayers to fund abortion, regardless of their personal convictions.
And all Kathleen Sebelius can say now is that she “thinks” she can rectify the issue. It would be wise for pro-lifers not to hold their breath waiting for transparency to appear.
