By enshrining the self-evident truth that every human being, regardless of size or development, is a person, the State of North Dakota has become a leader in defending and protecting human rights. We exhort every state in the Union to follow the admirable example set by North Dakota's duly elected legislature.
Anyone who has seen a sonogram knows that there are two people involved in any pregnancy: a mother and a child. That's why Planned Parenthood and other abortion lobbyists fight so hard against ultrasounds for pregnant women, and that's why they'll spend now until November 2014 tarring and misrepresenting North Dakota's Senate Resolution 4009. Their interest lies in protecting a lucrative, anti-life abortion industry – not the human rights of the most vulnerable.
Everyone should notice this historic moment – when a brave state asserts the most fundamental human right, placed before all other rights by our nation's Declaration of Independence. SCR 4009, calling for "[t]he inalienable right to life of every human being at every stage of development" to be "recognized and protected," is as refreshingly straightforward as the inherent humanity of each invaluable preborn child. I hope that North Dakotans will follow their convictions – the same convictions that elected these sensible representatives in the first place – and codify protection for the life and the dignity of every human being in their state in 2014.
