Two-Year Anniversary of Roe’s Overturn Demands Commitment to Protecting the Human Right to Life for All People
Washington, D.C. – Today marks the two-year anniversary of the overturn of Roe v. Wade with the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which found that there was no right to abortion in the Constitution.
Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, released the following comment:
Justice demands that we protect the fundamental human right to life for all people. While the overturning of Roe v. Wade was a historic victory, it did not achieve justice for every child. Horrifically, we live in a nation where 2,800 children are killed every day by abortion. While we celebrate the overturn of Roe v. Wade, we mourn the devastating slaughter of innocent human lives happening every day in America and rededicate ourselves to the abolition of abortion.
Since it was issued in 1973, Roe v. Wade licensed the destruction of over 63 million children, boys and girls who were killed before they had the chance to draw their first breath. The pro-life movement’s ultimate goal is to end abortion by ensuring every human being is recognized and protected as a person under the law. In practice, that means vigorous support for laws at the federal and state levels that confer complete legal protection to preborn children. We must also support programs that offer material aid and resources to families to make it easier to raise a family in this country.
Live Action is providing strategic leadership for the pro-life movement with the North Star Initiative, ensuring the movement is aligned on the goal of equal protection for all under the law. We will continue to expose the lies and abuses of the abortion industry until every abortion facility is shut down. As the educational leader of the pro-life movement, Live Action will continue to equip millions of activists to spread the pro-life message in their communities. We must prioritize changing hearts and minds by ensuring all people, especially young people, are given the truth about human life in the womb and the fact that abortion kills a human being. This effort is already seeing huge success, with multiple states adding Live Action’s Baby Olivia video to public school curricula. As some states, including Florida, Missouri, and South Dakota, vote on abortion this November, education on human development in the womb and the lethal violence of abortion is more important than ever, and Live Action will lead the way.
Since Roe was overturned, we have seen tremendous progress, including 14 states that have protected most children from the lethal violence of abortion; it is estimated these protections have saved tens of thousands of precious lives. But many still die every day; over 2,800 preborn children are killed each day by abortion in the United States. Each of these children is a precious human being with an unrepeatable future deserving of the same protection under the law as any other person. Our Constitution guarantees this right to every individual. That is the law as it stands, without change or amendment. Elective abortion is an unconditional moral atrocity of nearly unthinkable proportions.
When a society allows the strong to kill the weak and adults to kill children for their own convenience, pleasure, or any reason at all, we are in an active downward spiral of civilizational suicide. Our movement is passionately committed and will not rest until we have abolished abortion and built a culture of life.
