A British doctor is sounding the alarm as the abortion industry continues to push dangerous at-home chemical abortions. Dr. Gregory Gardner is a general practitioner (GP) at Cape Hill Medical Centre in England, as well as an honorary lecturer at the University of Birmingham. While abortion activists are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic, Gardner instead says the pandemic makes good medical practice more important than ever.
According to Fox News, the Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom has loosened its guidelines to allow chemical abortions to be committed at a woman’s home, under the guidance of a doctor through Facetime, Skype, or telemedicine. Dr. Gardner gave a report to the High Court in support of Christian Concern’s application to have this decision overturned. And Dr. Gardner didn’t hold back in outlining the problems with at-home abortions during a pandemic.
He began by pointing out that the pandemic may make things worse, not better, for abortion-minded women who are feeling even more stressed due to the circumstances. “Self isolation in itself may – at least for some women – heighten anxieties and change decision making capabilities,” he wrote. “The risk of making a life-changing decision which is subsequently regretted may be higher than normal, so standards of care and counseling must be of an especially high standard.”
Dr. Gardner then continued by outlining the numerous risks associated with the abortion pill regimen, which include death. Complications pointed out by Dr. Gardner included hemorrhage, infection, sepsis, and psychological trauma. And it would be impossible to fully satisfy informed consent, he claimed. “Informed consent implies not just a full risk assessment, but time allowed for reflection and change of mind,” he said. “How does a doctor ensure that the woman actually takes the medical abortion tablets, at the right time and in the right way, rather than someone else – perhaps a woman at a later stage of pregnancy?”
He also explained that a woman could easily be forced into an abortion without anyone noticing under these guidelines. “It will be difficult if not impossible to verify by phone or video whether a
woman is undergoing any kind of duress to have an abortion,” he said. “There does not seem to have been any consideration given to this in the proposed change in policy. There will be women who need delicate counseling to discover coercion or other forms of abuse. Face to face consultation is needed – if necessary on more than one occasion. A phone call or video call to someone at home who may not have the
ability to speak in complete confidence may cause important information to be hidden.”

At-home abortions, he concluded, would not be safe practice. “The introduction of home abortions as proposed (notwithstanding the presence of a COVID-19 pandemic) is a policy that is more likely than not to depart from the essential tenets of duty of care through proper clinical assessment, thereby raising
the risk of serious injury and harm being done to women self-administering Mifepristone and Misoprostol at home.”
Despite what abortion advocates say, the abortion pill regimen is not easy, painless, or without complications. Women regularly experience pain and trauma, with extremely heavy bleeding for days on end, and have described it as terrifying and humiliating. Without having a woman go through an ultrasound first, she could have an ectopic pregnancy, which is life-threatening, or she could be further along than she realized, thus causing the abortion to fail.
In short, at-home abortions aren’t being pushed on women because it’s what is best or safest for them. At-home abortions are nothing more than an easy way for the abortion industry to get money as the health care system overflows, at the expense of desperate, scared women.
