Actress Kate Beckinsale opens up about past loss of preborn baby at 20 weeks

In response to the tragic news of the loss of model Chrissy Teigen and musician husband John Legend’s son due to pregnancy complications, actress Kate Beckinsale opened up about her own loss and offered sympathy to the grieving couple in an emotional Instagram message.

“I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby,” wrote Beckinsale. “As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable.”

Beckinsale then went on to share her own tragic tale of pregnancy loss and expressed the deep emotional wounds it caused her.

I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby. As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable. Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks. I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known. There is grief, shame and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture. Your milk comes in, with no one to feed. It can be the loneliest, most soul destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has. I think it’s an honour to be allowed into another persons grief, especially with a subject like this which so often puts a woman into that hall of mirrors state of life continuing as if the world hasn’t, for you ,come to a bloody and terrible halt. Sending so much love to the Legend family, but also so much to the women and couples who have kept it quiet and suffered. I know there are so many. Thank you @chrissyteigen for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life changing it can be without support. Let’s let the grieving decide what’s right for them. Send support or keep quiet . This is a really hard time to bear .Blessings and hugs to all x

“Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks,” she explained. “I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known. There is grief, shame and shock so often that comes with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss to act as if it had a child to nurture.”

Beckinsale, who is the mother of a 21-year-old daughter, said her pregnancy loss was “the loneliest, most soul destroying period of time.” She went on to thank Teigen “for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life changing it can be without support.”

Included in the Instagram post was the image of a handwritten note that read: “Some babies are born to be angels and given Heaven instead, They are carried inside the hearts of broken-hearted parents and their families forever; Learning to fly with wings in paradise, where nothing can hurt them, instead of learning to walk on Earth; We grieve for them and what they might have been, asking why we couldn’t be together.”

Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart once said, “In my heart and my mind, you know, life begins when the mother thinks it begins, not when anybody else thinks it begins. For some women, it’s when they conceive, and for some women, it’s never, even after they deliver, it’s still a problem, not a baby.” He is not alone in this wholly anti-scientific thinking, as others have made similar statements.

Beckinsale’s words speak to the humanity of preborn children but they also speak to the hypocrisy that surrounds abortion advocates and businesses like Planned Parenthood, who mourn one child while violently killing children of the same age inside the womb. There is nothing about the timing of a pregnancy or a mother’s sense of being prepared for motherhood that changes the value of a preborn child’s life.

The loss of any preborn child is either “devastating” or a “right” to be celebrated. It cannot be both.

Both Beckinsale and Teigen have been supporters of Planned Parenthood, which kills preborn, viable children at 20 weeks and beyond through violent D&E dismemberment abortions. Planned Parenthood and abortion advocates see no contradiction in celebrating the “right” to kill some preborn babies, while simultaneously and hypocritically mourning the loss of “wanted” babies of the same age.
