UPDATE 8/24/22: Abortionist LeRoy Carhart is under investigation regarding the botched abortion that took place on February 25, 2022, at his Bellevue, Nebraska C.A.R.E. abortion facility. According to Operation Rescue, Carhart is being investigated by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services after a complaint was filed against him and the facility.
A 35-year-old woman suffered severe injuries including internal hemorrhaging at the clinic in February. She coded at least once and surgeons allegedly worked for hours to save her after the abortion staff at C.A.R.E. downplayed her injuries to the 911 operator. The complainant, whose identity has not been revealed, asked for an investigation into patient care violations at the facility.
4/6/22: A recent 911 transcript received by Operation Rescue shows that in February, an ambulance was requested for a woman at a Bellevue, Nebraska, abortion facility owned by abortionist LeRoy Carhart. In the call, the abortion facility worker described the woman as “stable” and “good to go.” However, Operation Rescue has received information that the woman coded once upon arriving at the hospital, where she was subsequently “worked on” for four hours — signs that the abortion facility may have downplayed the severity of the woman’s condition.
The incident happened at the C.A.R.E abortion facility, which is owned by Carhart, one of only a handful of abortionists who commits abortions very late in pregnancy. Carhart is responsible for the deaths of at least two women and has injured many more in the course of his lengthy career.
Operation Rescue reports that on March 2, an unknown person approached a 40 Days for Life volunteer named Eugene, who was praying outside the facility. The anonymous witness told Eugene that on February 25, an ambulance had been called for a woman who was injured at the facility. That woman was taken to the hospital, where she allegedly coded and was worked on for four hours because, the witness said, “They [the abortion facility] let her lie there too long” before calling 911. While Operation Rescue couldn’t verify the witness’s claims about the woman’s hospital experience, they did receive the transcripts to confirm there was an abortion injury on that date:
Caller: Um, so I actually am with a patient. We are the abortion clinic here in Bellevue, Nebraska. We have a patient who needs to be transported. She is in stable condition. Everything is good to go. She has no bleeding, but she’s having issues with – um – passing out. And we just want to have her transported to [REDACTED] just to be safe.
911: Are you with her now?
Caller: — On room air. Vitals are stable. Everything is good.
The caller stated that the woman was experiencing cramping because she had just had a “procedure,” and that she was unable to sit up without passing out.
Caller: She’s awake as long as she’s laying down and her feet are elevated. It’s just when she sits up that she passes out.
. . .
911: Is she changing color?
Caller: Um, she only changes color when she sits up. It’s like she loses all color. She just turns white, and then when she lays down, the color comes back.
Of note is the fact that the caller stated that there was no blood loss. However, as Operation Rescue points out, the victim’s symptoms were consistent with massive blood loss, which is a sign that she could have been hemorrhaging internally.
“I’m not a doctor, but I have seen this so many times I have lost count,” said Troy Newman of Operation Rescue. “A woman is injured during an abortion and starts to bleed. Sometimes the bleeding is seen externally. But sometimes the bleeding is internal, so it may seem like there is not much blood loss, but that is when things get very dangerous.”
The woman’s inability to stay conscious would in fact indicate serious blood loss, as much as 30 to 40%. Unfortunately, the woman’s condition following her harrowing ordeal is unknown.
Carhart has a long history of injuring women, and he’s one of the few abortionists in the country who will commit late-term abortions. He is responsible for the deaths of at least two women — Christin Gilbert and Jennifer Morbelli — and is currently the subject of two medical malpractice suits.
“We may never know exactly what happened to this woman who was hospitalized in February,” said Newman. “But it is wrong that one man can be responsible for so much loss of life and human suffering, and never be held to account.”
