Operation Rescue has obtained evidence that an abortion injury occurred at the Hope Clinic for Women abortion facility in Granite City, Illinois on June 16, an abortion facility notorious for injuring women.
The 911 caller who worked at the abortion facility reported that a 32-year-old woman was suffering after a dilation and curettage (D&C) abortion. The caller requested ambulance transport to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a Level One Trauma Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
During a D&C, the abortionist inserts a hollow plastic tube called a cannula into the woman’s uterus. The cannula is then attached to a suction machine, and the child is vacuumed out of her mother’s womb. Often, the child is suctioned out in pieces. Once the abortionist removes the child, he’ll use a long metal curette to scrape the uterus and ensure no pieces of the child are left behind. Risks of the procedure include laceration or perforation of the uterus, hemorrhage, infection, or even death.
According to eyewitnesses, before the ambulance arrived security guards at the facility quickly ushered in clients who were conversing with sidewalk counselors, warning them they would not be allowed in if they stopped to speak to anyone. Witnesses believe this was a tactic used to ensure these clients didn’t see the ambulance or suspect an injury. Operation Rescue reports that ambulances also regularly arrive at the facility without sirens, which is a common request abortion businesses make so as not to raise alarm with the injuries they are committing.
Hope Clinic for Women has been the site of many abortion injuries in the past several years, with four women reportedly injured in March and April alone. There were seven documented injuries in 2022 and more than 15 since 2020.
“This dangerous facility has been on our radar for a long time,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “But ever since George Tiller’s sycophant, Julie Burkhart, purchased it last March, the recklessness has increased and life-threatening emergency transports have doubled.”
“Sadly, we have already learned about another emergency transport since this frightening botch and have initiated our investigative procedure. Operation Rescue has also filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Department of Public Health Office of Health Care Regulation for the steadily increasing, frightening medical emergencies at HCW – including a uterine perforation of a 13-year-old girl,” Newman said.
“We are working to close this dangerous facility before any more women are gravely injured – or, even worse, killed.”
