Planned Parenthood of Illinois and online abortion pill biz team up to kill more preborn babies

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, has partnered with Hey Jane, an online abortion pill business, to expand abortion access in one of the most pro-abortion states in the country: Illinois.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Hey Jane is now able to access Illinois Medicaid, so the two organizations can now work together — Planned Parenthood will refer its clients to Hey Jane for chemical abortions, while Hey Jane refers clients to Planned Parenthood for surgical procedures.

“We’re in an abortion access crisis that started well before Election Day, and addressing it requires collaborative work, creative thinking, and strategic partnering,” said Kiki Freedman, co-founder and CEO of Hey Jane. “Illinois plays a critical role as a haven for reproductive health care, especially for patients traveling from states with restrictive abortion laws. The influx of patients has put immense pressure on in-person clinics, so this partnership is designed to alleviate some of that strain.”

Planned Parenthood of Illinois President Jennifer Welch told the Associated Press that the affiliate has likewise been trying to expand abortion in Illinois since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in 2022. “Hey Jane is a reliable, efficient and confidential medication abortion service that provides the quality health care people have come to expect from PPIL. This partnership means easier access to the abortion care people need and deserve,” she said.

Chemical abortions are now the most common abortion method, comprising approximately 63% of all yearly abortions, and are committed by taking two separate drugs. First, the mother takes mifepristone, which blocks progesterone and causes the lining of the woman’s uterus to break down, starving the baby of the nutrients he needs to survive. Next, she takes misoprostol, which triggers contractions and bleeding, causing her to deliver the child.

Chemical abortions are frequently described as being “safer than Tylenol,” yet there are numerous potential complications.

The abortion pill is known to cause severe cramping, contractions, and heavy bleeding, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches. Studies have shown chemical abortion to be four times more dangerous than a first-trimester surgical abortion, and additionally found that approximately 6% of women in at least one study experienced complications severe enough to require an emergency room or urgent care visit. However, the real number of visits could be even higher, as women are encouraged to lie to emergency room providers and say they are experiencing a natural miscarriage as opposed to post-abortion complications. In addition, there are no federal requirements to report abortion numbers or complications.

The “no-test” abortion pill protocol used by companies like Hey Jane is even more risky for women. Without an ultrasound or any blood tests beforehand, there is no way to truly confirm the preborn child’s gestational age, and no way to rule out an extra-uterine pregnancy or any other contraindications that may put the mother at risk. Though it is possible that Hey Jane’s partnership with Planned Parenthood could mean women are able to get blood tests and ultrasounds performed first, there is no indication from either company that this will be the case — particularly since the Chicago Sun-Times mentioned the arrangement freeing up space at Planned Parenthood for more surgical abortion clients.

Illinois is one of the most pro-abortion states in the country, with Governor J.B. Pritzker mandating insurance coverage for abortion coverage earlier this year in addition to the state’s numerous other pro-abortion policies. Millions in grant money is being funneled to Planned Parenthood of Illinois and other abortion organizations to train future abortionists, and the state recently issued a declaration naming abortion as a stabilizing emergency treatment. The state also repealed even parental notification for minors’ abortions, and an executive order was issued ensuring the enforcement of HB 40, which requires the state to provide taxpayer-funded abortion, for any reason, to state employees and Medicaid recipients.

Pritzker has also worked to make abortion a right in the Illinois constitution, has supported legislation allowing out-of-state abortionists to commit abortions while shielding them from legal liability, and allowed taxpayer-funded abortions for incarcerated women.

Illinois’ Democratic supermajority ensures that any and all pro-abortion measures introduced in the state are likely to become law.
