A common abortion-lobby smear of pro-lifers is that they care only about saving the baby, but former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson and the ministry she started to help free people from the abortion industry, And Then There Were None (ATTWN), has helped dispel that criticism. On Monday, a major thrust for abortion workers to leave the industry will take place all across the nation, called the Day of Exodus.
On the website, ATTWN promises its help for those departing:
Our ministry will provide the following:
- Up to three months of financial support after a worker resigns
- Emotional support as often as needed during the transition time
- A spiritual advisor of the former worker’s choosing
- Legal counsel who will protect the worker’s interests at no cost during transition
Often, we insist that abortion stop without considering the resources abortion workers need to escape the cycle. Day of Exodus 2013 is about making this a reality.
The book of James says, “[A]nd one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” (James 2:16). Whether they believe in the Bible or not, the principle is the same: put feet to your words so people believe they are real.
While not only limited to Monday, the organization decided to focus on this way to help workers take a unified stand.
Monday, April 8 is Day of Exodus 2013. Simply put, it is the day of the year that abortion clinic workers who are ready to quit their jobs do so, in exodus.
Whatever led you to work in the abortion industry, please realize that this isn’t your full potential. If you feel bound to your job in an abortion clinic (whether it’s financial struggles, pressure from friends or family, a sense of obligation from an abortion in your past, or anything else) you don’t have to feel trapped in your work at an abortion clinic any more.
While it’s easy for us to judge those who work in abortion, ATTWN helps bring human compassion to the ugly industry. Losing a decent salary and having bills to pay and families to feed is a reality for many, but as the Day of Exodus Facebook page said Friday:
There are abortion employees at work right this minute thinking “I have to get out of here.” Some are thinking about joining others in the Day of Exodus 2013 (Leave the Abortion Industry Day).
Pray hard this weekend and on Monday for the workers who are gathering the courage to take that leap and flee the industry.
As recently as Wednesday, they were posting updates such as this:
ANOTHER abortion clinic worker has contacted us!!! Keep “P” in your thoughts and prayers. She hates what she’s doing, but provides the sole income for her family/children.
Putting a human face to those we vilify only helps them leave and us love them as people. On Monday, many may leave the abortion industry and take a stand that they never could have taken without this support.
Though this event is happening Monday in its official capacity, ATTWN will continue to help workers who want to leave the industry. This flier has been sent to abortion clinics and workers all across the nation, and while some may have not circulated, that promise of help without hate could be the key that unlocks a life committed to abortion.
