The outrage about sidewalk counselors

crowd, teen, sidewalkA pro-life woman explained her position this way:

Everyone deserves life, love, respect and dignity. Reaching out to the women is vital. It’s important that they know how much they are loved and cared for.

Then she told a story:

A women came up to us and was looking at our displays. Then she started taking a picture of it and confided she was going to get an abortion.

She said after looking at this and hearing what we said SHE’S GOING TO KEEP THE BABY!!!!!!

We are saving lives and helping women.

This is why I get up each morning knowing I will work long hours in the heat and surrounded by people who hate me and wish me unwell.

For this right here.

When you save one life, you save the world.

Here are a few responses she got from pro-choicers:

I am deeply saddened to hear of your despicable behavior. It is not your place to use propaganda and misinformation to persuade a fellow human being to keep her fetus because you cannot stand the idea of her making a decision that should be hers and hers alone. … Sidewalk ‘counseling’ is simply the manipulation and borderline-abuse of a woman who is already having to make a difficult and personal decision. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Why would anyone cheer for this? Yes, you exploited and doctored other peoples abortions and used that to make misinformed posters, You also take advantage of an already scary situation to use it for your agenda. Yes you should be so proud…

This actually makes me really upset. I’m tired of the stupid “omg im savin the world” that pro-fetus people hide behind when they straight up manipulate and hurt people. It’s disgusting. These people need to face reality before they destroy more peoples’ lives.

Good to hear that you used lies, misrepresentations, guilt/shame, and possible manipulation to stop someone form having an abortion. :)

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are people actually complaining about a baby being saved? About a human being who has now been given the opportunity to live? I’d wager that these same people would not be complaining if the mother had chosen abortion. After all, their outrage is specifically directed at the mother opting out of abortion, as if abortion is a magical, beautiful, and grand thing. No – abortion is killing. It’s ending the life of a unique, living human being who will never return again. It’s a horrible tragedy.

When abortion is rejected, we should celebrate, not complain.

Since when is it “despicable” to help a woman see the truth? Since when is it exploitation to help one human being choose life for another human being? (Equality seems to be a better “e” word here.) Since when is it “manipulation” to help a mother see what’s wrong with killing her child and what’s beautiful, good, and right with giving life to her child? It’s actually quite natural for a mother to want to give life to her child. That’s what women do. We give life; we don’t take it.

baby, womb, pregnant, womanIt’s also interesting that these commenters are outraged at something they don’t even know the facts about. They merely assume that this pro-life woman’s information is “propaganda.” Nowhere did she mention what kind of posters she was using or what she said to the pregnant mom. Clearly, the mom met up with the truth she already knew in her heart: her baby is a one-of-a-kind, living individual who would beg for the chance to live if he could. And this mom said yes to her child. Nothing here is outrageous.

What should actually bring outrage is the fact that women in America are forced to have abortions. Women in America are lied to by the abortion industry; they are filled with misinformation concerning their unborn children. They are pushed to abort now. They are told that a choice for death is their best option. And many of them are tortured by abortion. How tragic.

Sidewalk counselors stand against this tragedy, combating death every day.

Some of them drive a really awesome van and offer free ultrasounds in a comfy, welcoming environment – right outside abortion clinics.

Some of them set up displays outside college campuses (where lots of pregnant women are).

Some of them stand outside abortion clinics and pray, offering accurate information to women**.

All of them are heroes. They care about women and children. They offer truth and accurate information. They help women see that they are indeed strong enough to make a choice for life. They help women in some of their darkest moments. They are there – on the front lines – offering a last chance that will change a woman’s or girl’s life for the good.

40 Days for Life is currently in the middle of one of its campaigns for life, standing outside abortion clinics. Watch this precious video of one little boy saved through the work of 40 Days for Life. His one life is worth all the work, toil, effort, and hardship in the world. But he’s not the only one! Since September 25, 2013, 259 babies have been saved through this 40 Days campaign! Do you have the time to make a difference for one more?

You can stand and pray. You can hold a sign. You can talk to the women and girls entering. You can hand them information. The point is – you can do something, even for a single day. Go here to find out how you can join in your city today.

** If you’d like to hand out information outside of abortion clinics, check with your local pregnancy resource center to see if they have brochures available. Here is one you could buy. You can also bring photos of unborn babies at the stages of development when abortion is commonly performed. Go here to see 6-8 week old babies. Here is a brochure with a photo of an 8-week baby. (It’s a good idea to bring photos of babies at multiple stages – at least as early as 5-6 weeks – since you don’t know what stage of pregnancy the women are at.) You can also bring facts about fetal development from the very beginning or fetal models that demonstrate the size and humanity of unborn babies. Of course, try to find a local pregnancy resource center or a van in your area that offers free ultrasounds and other needed resources!
