Over 200 female pro-abortion protestors associated with Alliance for Choice have sent a letter to Northern Ireland’s Public Prosecution Service daring the government to arrest them for defying the country’s pro-life laws, Reuters reports.
Protesting the recent prosecution of a Belfast woman who gave her daughter the abortion drugs Mifepristone and Misoprostol, the letter declares that “It’s unfair because hundreds of women have been doing it for years…If it’s not for themselves, they do it for daughters, nieces, sisters and friends…We hope that some of us will be arrested, if not all of us. They should be prosecuting all of us.”
Northern Ireland prohibits abortion in all cases except for a threat to the mother’s life. In response, the Northern Ireland Police Service’s Detective Superintendent, Andrea McMullan, said law enforcement was “assessing” the letter’s contents.”
“It would depend on the specific circumstances of an incident as to whether or not an offence has been committed and each case would be investigated on its own merit,” McMullan said of potential legal actions based on the letter. “The taking of any prescription drug is potentially harmful if used without appropriate medical supervision.”
Last week, LifeSiteNews reported that John Larkin, Northern Ireland’s Attorney General, fiercely defended its right to treat the killing of preborn humans as equivalent to post-birth homicide regardless of international treaties or declarations.
In 2012, Larkin made the case that, “If one is prepared to contemplate the destruction of a highly disabled, unborn child in the womb, one should also be prepared to contemplate, I think, putting a bullet in the back of the head of the child two days after it’s born.”
