I’ve been in the pro-life movement for a while, and I’ve noticed certain things bother abortion advocates.
Explaining how abortion helps pimps and child rapists usually does. Pointing out that girls are disproportionately aborted can too. But the worst? Referring to a fetus as “a baby.” That’s clear from the response to Live Action’s latest video project.
Live Action has produced videos illustrating four common abortion procedures. They feature medical animations and are narrated by Dr. Anthony Levatino, a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist. In the past, Dr. Levatino performed over 1200 abortions; in the clip below, he looks at a second trimester technique called dilation & evacuation (D&E).
After the amniotic fluid is removed, the abortionist uses a sopher clamp — a grasping instrument with rows of sharp “teeth” — to grasp and pull the baby’s arms and legs, tearing the limbs from the child’s body.
The abortionist continues to grasp intestines, spine, heart, lungs, and any other limbs or body parts. The most difficult part of the procedure is usually finding, grasping and crushing the baby’s head.
After removing pieces of the child’s skull, the abortionist uses a curette to scrape the uterus and remove the placenta and any remaining parts of the baby.
The videos are available at AbortionProcedures.com, and you can see them on Live Action’s Facebook page as well. That’s also where you’ll find comments like this:
I understand why abortion supporters prefer calling preborn children “fetuses” instead of “babies”– they think it’s dehumanizing. They’re wrong of course: “fetus” just refers to a stage of development, like “adolescent” or “adult.”
Further, the contention that medical professionals never say “baby” instead of “fetus” simply isn’t true. After all, the medical director for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Dr. Savita Ginde, had no problem referring to a fetus as a baby.
Right after she aborted him (9:00 into the video below).
In undercover footage from the Center for Medical Progress, Ginde is shown giving a tour of an abortion facility. At one point, she looks down at an aborted fetus and declares, “it’s a baby.” Later, an assistant jokes how “another boy” is out on the counter. He’s in pieces.
As you can see, even abortionists like Dr. Ginde can recognize who they’re killing–they just don’t care. If you do, then you’re welcome to take action.
You can start by supporting laws to protect pain-capable children. Another good move? Tell Congress to redirect half a billion dollars in funding from Planned Parenthood (America’s largest abortion chain) to federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and community health centers (CHCs) instead. FQHCs and CHCs are more accessible and have more to offer: unlike Planned Parenthood, they perform five hundred thousand mammograms every year.
The fact is, pro-lifers and Dr. Ginde have something in common: we both understand children are no less human at one end of the birth canal than at the other. The difference? We want to save their lives–not end them.
