“Nobody wants to perform abortions after ten weeks because by then you see the features of the baby, hands, feet. It’s really barbaric.”
Although clinic workers and abortionists generally avoid using the term “baby” in public, some of them do use the word in private to refer to aborted children. When speaking to abortion patients or talking candidly to a friendly audience, they let it slip that they are talking about babies.
When the word “baby” is said, it shows that abortionists have no illusions about what they do for a living— they know they are killing preborn children.
In an undercover video shot by the Center for Medical Progress at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, abortionist Savita Ginde refers to a dead aborted child as a “baby.”
Buyer: Was that crack, was that the little bits of the skull?
Ginde: Mmhm…It’s a baby.
Buyer: Is that the heart?
Medical Assistant: I think so, here’s the heart. My fingers will smush it if I get in on it.
In another undercover video, this one shot by Live Action, an undercover investigator questions an abortion center worker about late term abortion. The worker refers to the woman’s child as a baby. The conversation, which you can hear in the video below, is as follows:
Abortion center worker: We cannot, uh, deliver a live baby.
Woman: So it’s like having a baby, but a dead baby.
Abortion center worker: Stillborn, yes.
Woman: Yeah –
Abortion center worker: Yeah, stillborn.
Woman: Okay, oh. That’s what – what is stillborn?
Abortion center worker: Stillborn is a dead baby.
Although the abortion worker hesitates slightly, she admits that abortion will cause “a dead baby.”
A baby killed by abortion, of course, is not “stillborn,” but has been murdered by artificial means; in this case, most likely digoxin, a heart drug that is misused to cause the death of a preborn baby. It is an insult to women who have lost babies through actual stillbirth to refer to an abortion as though it were a natural loss of pregnancy.
A third undercover video was filmed at the late-term abortion facility of Dr. Leroy Carhart. Carhart was responsible for the deaths of two abortion patients, Jennifer Morbelli and Christin Gilbert, and has sent numerous women to the hospital.
In the video below, you can hear the undercover pregnant woman question Carhart about how her baby will be aborted. Here is an excerpt from that conversation:
Pregnant woman: So I’ll have a dead baby in me?
Carhart: for 3 days, yeah.
In addition to abortion providers using the term “baby” when talking to women, some abortionists have used the term in other contexts.
An anonymous abortionist was quoted in the book M.D.: Doctors Talk About Themselves by John Pekkanen:
Nobody wants to perform abortions after ten weeks because by then you see the features of the baby, hands, feet. It’s really barbaric. …I do them because I take the attitude that women are going to terminate babies and deserve the same kind of treatment as women who carry babies…I’ve done a couple thousand, and it turned into a significant financial boon, but I also feel I’ve provided an important service. The only way I can do an abortion is to consider only the woman as my patient and block out the baby.
This abortionist may not have expected pro-life activists to ever read what he said. His repeated use of the term “baby” show that he knows full well that each abortion he performs kills a child.
The late Dr. George Tiller had a message to women seeking abortions on his website. In the following quote he is addressing parents who are aborting their baby because of fetal anomaly. In these cases, the child would be born disabled, and the parents decide not to have him or her. Tiller’s website, now down, said:
If you wish to see the baby, we call this an identification and separation encounter. After we deliver and after the twilight anesthesia has worn off so that you will remember the process we will bring the baby to you either at the bedside, or we will go to our quiet room and we will bring the baby to you there. During this encounter we will describe to you what’s right with your baby we will identify what’s wrong with your baby you may hold the baby, we will take pictures of you and the family holding the baby if you wish and that is not an uncommon request.…
The identification and separation encounter may involve two or three hours of bonding with the baby. The idea of the identification that this is your baby and you have had a delivery. We understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that the difficult part of this process is not premature delivery of a stillborn…. The difficult part of the process is saying goodbye to the relationship you have with your baby, saying goodbye to the hopes and dreams you had… You have placed this baby in your life someplace and you simply have to start the process of saying goodbye.”
In this passage, Dr. Tiller referred to the unborn child — who was deliberately killed, not ‘stillborn’ — as a “baby” over 10 times.
Incidentally, most babies aborted by Tiller in the third trimester were healthy.
An article in the American Medical News had quotes from abortionists and facility workers about the emotional impact their work had on them. One abortionist says:
I have angry feelings at myself for feeling good about grasping the calvaria [head], for feeling good about doing a technically good procedure that destroys a fetus, kills a baby.
He uses the words “fetus” and “baby” interchangeably. It’s a bald admission that he kills babies.
We need to teach the public what abortion doctors and clinic workers already know — that abortion scars women and does not remove tissue or “products of conception,” but kills babies… actual children. And abortion providers know this. Perhaps if they told the truth in public interviews, more people would realize that every abortion kills a developing baby.
