Arizona abortionists ‘thrilled’ to kill babies old enough to survive birth

Arizona, Michigan, D&E, dismemberment, Texas

After an Arizona constitutional amendment allowing abortion past 15 weeks was recently certified, abortion businesses in the state announced they can’t wait to kill preborn children later in pregnancy, with at least one admitting that it is already committing abortions up to about 24 weeks, even though the 15-week law is still in effect until overturned by the courts.

Dr. Atsuko Koyama, an abortionist at Camelback Family Planning in Phoenix, told The Copper Courier that her facility is now committing abortions up to the point of “fetal viability” because they are “confident” the current law restricting abortions after 15 weeks will soon be overturned. In early December, abortion activists filed a lawsuit to block the law, and Attorney General Kris Mayes said that her office would not be enforcing the law while the lawsuit proceeds. Koyama praised Mayes’ decision, knowing that she could break the law without fear of penalty.

“I think it’s important for us to take the good and the win when we have it, right?” she said.

The state’s Planned Parenthood abortion businesses have also noted that they, too, are getting ready to start aborting babies later in pregnancy.

“We are actively working to operationalize and expand our abortion program to the limits that are now set,” said Dr. Jill Gibson, Chief Medical Director at Planned Parenthood Arizona. She explained that Planned Parenthood would be offering abortions until “viability” as soon as they are done “training staff, buying new equipment, and getting everything ready.”

Gibson had previously noted she was “thrilled and relieved” when Arizona voters passed the constitutional amendment supporting abortion, calling it a “victory.”

The age of viability is widely considered to begin at 24 weeks gestation, though Arizona’s constitutional amendment does not give a specific age for this guideline, presumably so that the abortionist can use his or her own discretion in deciding if a preborn baby is viable. This arbitrary guideline becomes even more troubling with the knowledge that children have survived outside the womb as young as 21 weeks. The chance of survival increases with every gestational week; babies born at 23 weeks have a survival rate of about 55%.

Though Arizona’s abortion facilities are eager to begin the business of killing these children, some of those children would survive if they were born prematurely and given proper medical care. Instead, they will be subjected to a brutal death by dismemberment.

Stop killing America’s future. Defund Planned Parenthood NOW!
