A man in Alberta, Canada, is standing trial after raping his daughter for years and using abortion to cover up his crimes.
The Calgary Herald reported that the 51-year-old man — who is not being named to protect the identity of the victim — began raping her in 2007, when she was 13 years old. In 2008, when she was 15, she got pregnant, and he coerced her to get an abortion.
“The accused groomed (his daughter) throughout the time of their sexual interactions and would treat (her) as if they were in a consensual sexual relationship,” Crown Prosecutor Kaitlyn Perrin said. “The accused threatened to harm himself, or commit suicide, if (she) attempted to stop the sexual interactions or end the sexual relationship between them.”
He also never took any precautions to avoid pregnancy. “In November of 2008 (she) became pregnant with the accused’s child,” Perrin said. “The accused took (her) to a health clinic for her to have an abortion in November of 2008. (She) was 15 years old at the time of this abortion.”
Oddly, the man in question faced only one criminal charge: incest, to which he pled guilty. And in their reporting, the Calgary Herald never once referred to the child as being a victim of rape.
Abortion is a frequent tool used by abusers to cover their crimes. According to research from the Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy, for example, trafficking victims were frequently taken to abortion facilities – with Planned Parenthood being the most common choice. This has been supported by multiple other studies as well.
Similar results can be found when looking at victims of rape, with rapists using abortion to hide the consequences of their abuse, and Planned Parenthood helping to cover it up. One 2018 Live Action investigation — with testimony from eyewitnesses, victims, former staffers, and prosecutors — exposed how victims were taken to Planned Parenthood by their abusers, only for Planned Parenthood staffers to frequently look the other way.
Documentation from multiple states also showed that state authorities have criticized Planned Parenthood for covering up child sexual abuse.
Details of this teens’s abortion are not clear, but what is known is that the abuse continued for years after the procedure. Did the staffers report the abuse to authorities? Considering the tendency of abortion industry staffers to hide abuse, and the fact that the abuse did not stop after the abortion, chances are, her rape may have been covered up — like those of countless women before her.
