Justin Trudeau, a pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia politician who has served as prime minister of Canada since 2015 and Liberal Party leader since 2013, is resigning. Trudeau will continue in his role as prime minister until elections are held in October.
“I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide, competitive process,” he said in a press conference. “Last night, I asked the president of the Liberal Party to begin that process. This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election.”
Trudeau’s resignation does not appear to be related to abortion, but during his time in office, he has been an outspoken abortion activist. He threatened to withhold health care funding to the province of New Brunswick if it wouldn’t fund abortion facilities, used COVID-19 money to fund abortion, and — after the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 — promised to help American women end the lives of their preborn children. He increased abortion funding, and argued that pro-life views are not in line with society, and should not be tolerated.
He also supervised the legalization of assisted suicide in Canada, which has quickly become known for its widespread abuses of “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAiD). Reports have found that MAiD deaths have been wrongly approved, and that vulnerable populations are being pushed into the MAiD program — not because they are terminally ill, but because they are struggling with poverty, disability, or an inability to access necessary health care.

Campaign Life Coalition, a Canadian pro-life group, released a statement celebrating Trudeau’s resignation.
“Trudeau has done more than any other Prime Minister in our country’s history to move our country away from its Christian foundation toward an anti-life and anti-family dystopia that undermined the rights of Canadians. Thank God he’s stepping down,” CLC National President Jeff Gunnarson said, adding:
Trudeau brought in his nefarious ‘MAiD’/euthanasia regime, legalizing the killing of our sick and elderly. He used billions of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion organizations and to expand the killing of preborn babies through abortion, both at home and abroad.
He attacked our country’s fantastic pro-life pregnancy centres with proposed legislation that threatened to strip them of their charitable status. He insanely brought in a free contraception plan at a time when our country’s fertility rate had plummeted to an all-time low of 1.26.
Through this decision, Trudeau has set off a battle for succession as Canada’s next prime minister. Trudeau has allegedly been facing pressure from within his party over the handling of tariffs with the upcoming Trump administration, and his administration was hit with a major setback when Chrystia Freeland, his deputy prime minister, resigned abruptly last month. She harshly criticized Trudeau in a public letter that accused him of “costly political gimmicks” instead of taking the tariff issue seriously. She responded to his resignation with a statement on social media wishing him and his family “the very best.”
