Donald Trump noticeably absent from GOP candidates standing for life on anniversary of Roe

On the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, many GOP presidential contenders were not silent. While Democrats Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton continue to defend the horrors of abortion, Republicans Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Rick Santorum, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson took to social media. Recognizing the tragedy of over 58 million lives lost, these candidates explained why they stand for life.

Donald Trump, however, has been silent on abortion, the March for Life, and Roe v. Wade all day. He is the only GOP front runner to avoid making a statement. Issues concerning Trump’s pro-abortion past continue to rise – including his statement that his sister would be “one of the best” justices for the U.S. Supreme Court, despite her ruling in favor of partial-birth abortion as a circuit judge.

Trump’s lack of a statement on the anniversary of Roe further illustrate the muddle he is in with pro-lifers and conservatives. His statements are viewed by some as very concerning, including his recent observation that “[W]e have to look at the positives, also, for Planned Parenthood.”

Turning to the candidates who did speak out, Marco Rubio shared a video and an op-ed on Twitter:

Jeb Bush declared his support for the unborn in his own op-ed, printed by Fox News:

Dear Reader,

Every day in America, more than 2,800 preborn babies lose their lives to abortion.

That number should break our hearts and move us to action.

Ending this tragedy requires daily commitment from people like you who refuse to stay silent.

Ted Cruz shared a March for Life video, as well as an ultrasound photo affirming the value of every life.

Rick Santorum tweeted a series of posts, showing him and his older children holding signs explaining #WhyWeMarch:

Ben Carson spoke of his lifelong dedication to saving babies:

Carly Fiorina personally attended the March for Life in D.C. as one of the speakers. Townhall also published her op-ed:

Editor’s Note: At the time of publication, 2:36pm ET, Donald Trump, John Kasich, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, and Chris Christie had not posted on their Twitter or Facebook accounts about abortion, Roe v. Wade, or the March for Life.
