A new Planned Parenthood set to open in Luverne, Minnesota, just had its lease terminated before it even opened its doors. It had planned to commit telemedicine abortions using the abortion pill at the location.
On Friday, Brian Gibson, the executive director of Pro-Life Action Ministries in the state, shared on Facebook a message he received from the office of the local mayor, stating that it was believed that the lease had been terminated. On Monday, the news was confirmed, as Gibson wrote:
Victory in Luverne
We are no confident that Planned Parenthood of North Central States (PPNCS) will not open shop for telemed chemical abortions in Luverne, Minnesota. The very good people of Luverne stepped up quickly and placed enough pressure on owners of the building that the lease with PPNCS was ‘terminated.’ The building owner was quoted in a local newspaper, ‘Planned Parenthood has never operated in our building, isn’t now and won’t in the future.’

Luverne is just over 30 miles from Sioux Falls, South Dakota – where the last abortion business in that state is located. Due to travel restrictions in place amid the COVID-19 crisis, Planned Parenthood was unable to send an abortionist from Minnesota to Sioux Falls. In addition, South Dakota state law does not allow telemedicine abortions. So when the abortion business tried to set up shop just over the border, local pro-lifers fought back.
According to Gibson, Planned Parenthood was trying to sneak themselves into the building, which also houses a domestic violence non-profit that was reportedly upset about Planned Parenthood moving in. Building owners Karen and Cary Radisewitz, who also run American Family Insurance in the building, quickly terminated Planned Parenthood’s lease on April 17.
“We are glad that it appears Planned Parenthood has been booted from Luverne,” said Connor McCarty, Midwest Regional Coordinator for Students for Life of America. “We will continue to keep an eye on what they are doing and will urge every city to keep fighting to abolish abortion.”

Though this is great news, Gibson warns pro-lifers in Southwestern Minnesota and Northwestern Iowa that since Planned Parenthood failed to open this particular facility in Luverne, the corporation will likely “be scouring for another location to commit these abortions.”
“State law prohibits telemed abortions in South Dakota, a reason for PPNCS attempting to open up shop in rural Minnesota,” Gibson said. “I would imagine there is a desire to keep the location within a reasonable driving distance to their Sioux Falls location. Please keep this all in prayer. And if you know people in the area, encourage them to keep diligent lookout for this possiblity in their town. It is far easier to stop Planned Parenthood from coming in than to get them out once established.”
