WATCH: Oklahoma’s pro-life Governor Stitt on the need for an ‘eternal perspective’ in politics

In an exclusive interview, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, whose pro-life policies have earned him the title of “most pro-life governor in the country,” sat down with Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, to discuss protecting life and pro-family values.

Since Stitt took office in 2019, Oklahoma has passed legislation that now offers complete legal protection for preborn children. This, along with the promotion of pro-family values, has been a priority for Stitt during his tenure.

“When I was running for governor I thought, ‘If I’m fortunate enough to win, what’s going to happen when I get there?’…I’m just so fortunate that I was the governor able to protect life and basically ban abortion in my state,” he told Rose. “It’s an honor to protect life, promote Godly values, and lead with pro-family values.”

Stitt explained that though he has a busy family and career life, he felt the Lord calling him to run for governor, despite it being something he knew little about and hadn’t previously considered. “When God’s for you, who can be against you? He uses ordinary people to accomplish amazing results,” he said.

Rose pointed out that some people argue that pro-life laws aren’t a prudent political move, yet Stitt won reelection with the most votes in Oklahoma history even after passing pro-life protections. She asked him what to say to other pro-life political leaders who may be afraid to take such a strong stand for life.

“We’re going to do what’s right because it’s right, no matter what the political ramifications,” Stitt stated. He also says he believes Americans are looking for bold leadership and people willing to stand up for truth, integrity, and family values.

“We’re not against anybody, but we’re also going to stand for what we believe is the right way to live,” he said.

The state is also currently adopting several pro-family initiatives which include making adoption easier, supporting pregnancy resource centers, expanding postpartum benefits for mothers, and a “be a neighbor” program, which enlists help from churches and other nonprofits for social support within their communities.

“When you have an eternal perspective and you think about the actions we have in this world are going to mean something, you’ll do things for the right reasons,” he said.
