Singer refuses abortion and finds hope with Sisters of Life

Singer-songwriter Raisa was experiencing a high-risk pregnancy with twin baby girls when doctors advised her to consider abortion. She refused the abortion, but she still needed support, and thankfully, she was tipped off on where to find it.

During Life Fest, an annual March for Life event sponsored by the Sisters of Life and the Knights of Columbus, Raisa told EWTN News, “When I found out I was pregnant, they told me because I was a high-risk pregnancy … [that I should] consider getting an abortion. That’s when I said, ‘Definitely not. That’s not going to happen. I think this is a blessing from God.'”

Soon after, someone informed her about the Sisters of Life, Catholic religious sisters whose mission is to help pregnant women, especially those who are vulnerable to abortion. They offer support and resources to help women choose life with confidence. They also provide support to women who are living with abortion regret.

After learning about the sisters, Raisa wondered if she should meet and get to know them. When she did, reported ChurchPop, she felt she received a “sign from God.”

“I never ate eggs,” she explained. “Everything was stinking [from morning sickness] and that [with the sisters] was the first time I ate something good.” That led her to believe, “I am supposed to be with them.”

Raisa moved in with the Sisters of Life the very next day to begin preparing for motherhood. “[A]nd that’s when my journey started,” she said, “and [now] it’s history.”

In addition to sharing her testimony, Raisa performed her original song, “Madre,” at Life Fest on Friday.

Sisters of Life, to which more than 100 members belong, provides help to women facing difficult circumstances during pregnancy, as well as “weekend retreats for women and men who need a spiritual re-charging and re-ignition of their hopes.” There is also support for post-abortive women, an outreach program for college students, and support for end-of-life care. Sisters of Life have helped thousands of women choose life for their children.
