This Virginia couple’s offer to adopt went viral on Facebook. Now, they’re adopting a son.

A Virginia couple is preparing to welcome a new addition to their family after making a bold offer to adopt an preborn child at risk of being aborted. Blake and Sarah Thomas of Radford, Virginia, made headlines earlier this year when their Facebook photo offering adoption went viral. The photo features the couple holding a sign that read, “Please don’t abort. We will adopt your baby.”

The Thomases’ post was in response to the passage of the radical New York bill that allows abortion up to birth in most cases. According to WND, the couple got the idea after seeing a similar-style post from Kevin and Nicole Cook in 2015.

The post went on to have 17,000 shares and gained a huge response from mothers contemplating abortion. The post also inspired other women to offer adoption, with one commenter saying, “My husband and I have been trying for a year to have a baby… Please send anyone my way that would be willing to adopt out!!!”

After the post went viral, Sarah Thomas added an update that read:

Dear Reader,

Every day in America, more than 2,800 preborn babies lose their lives to abortion.

That number should break our hearts and move us to action.

Ending this tragedy requires daily commitment from people like you who refuse to stay silent.

Together, we can end abortion and create a future where every child is cherished and every mother is supported.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed interest in helping these women. At this time we are no longer receiving messages and the women who contacted us have been referred to Pregnancy Resource Centers or adoption agencies. Thank you!**

We have been completely overwhelmed by what God has done over the past week! Dozens of expectant mothers contacted us many of whom were contemplating or planning abortions. Many of those mothers are now considering parenting their babies and others are actively pursuing adoption. We have had the great honor of accepting one mother’s request that we adopt her baby.

According to Fox News, the Thomas family did agree to adopt a child, but that eventually fell through after the birth mother decided to keep her baby. The family is now in the process of adopting a little boy from Bulgaria.

“We believe as Christians that we are called to love and care for orphans,” Sarah Thomas told Fox News. “We recently felt God burdening our hearts for older orphans, specifically boys who statistically are the least likely to be adopted,” she said. “We’re so excited to meet him and we’re amazed by how God has already filled our hearts with love for this boy on the other side of the world that we’ve never met.”
