Meghan Murphy is the founder of Feminist Current. Styled as a “leading feminist website,” it offers “a unique perspective on pop culture, politics, current events, sexuality, gender, and many other issues that are often underrepresented or misrepresented by most media sources.” It also supports the abortion industry.
What Murphy’s not, however, is fan of pornography. According to her, porn adds to “the widespread problem of violence against women.” But while she doesn’t approve of pornography, it seems she has something in common with those who do.
A recent study published in the Journal of Sex Research found that male porn viewers tend to hold “less negative attitudes toward abortion.” The study’s authors characterize this as “egalitarian” and suggest that men with pro-abortion views are potentially “useful allies” for women. Many women who have been to abortion clinics would be surprised to hear that.
There’s evidence that more than half of women who have abortions are pressured into doing so. Why would someone tell a woman to abort? Child support, for one thing. It’s not cheap, a fact that “bro-choice” author Christian McQueen has commented on:
Of course, the offer of a “new Prada purse” isn’t always persuasive enough, so some men resort to blackmail and financial coercion instead.
Others prefer threats of physical violence, and they often don’t respond well when those threats are ignored. Women have been shot, stabbed, bludgeoned, burned and smothered for refusing to exercise their “right to choose.” That might help explain why the CDC lists homicide as a leading cause of death during pregnancy.
Sexual predators appreciate abortion, too. Gary Cross did, especially after his wife noticed that her 13 year-old daughter was putting on weight. Knowing he’d gotten her pregnant, Cross took his victim to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion chain.
Despite the girl being well below the age of consent, staff there didn’t contact authorities. Instead, they referred her for a late-term abortion, thus allowing Cross to resume the abuse when she got home.
Cross wasn’t unique: John Blanks, Jr., Adam Gault, Joseph Coles, Kevon Walker, Edgar Ramirez, Timothy Smith and dozens of other abusers got similar help from abortionists as well.
It’s great that Ms. Murphy doesn’t like violence against women. What’s not so great? The fact that her friends in the abortion industry are enabling it.
She can help change that by supporting legislation to protect women from coerced abortions. She can also join with pro-lifers in asking Congress to redirect Planned Parenthood’s half billion dollar subsidy to community health centers – places where people of limited financial means can get the care that they need.
Because the truth is, abortion supporters do make useful allies. After all, plenty of violent men depend on them.
